What it is and What it isn't

The third annual Walnut24 is about two weeks away. New students may be wondering what it is and veteran students may wonder what it has become.

First, it is and always will be a fundraiser. Walnut24 raises money to pay for advisors and coaches that lead our 90+ athletic teams, over 60 clubs, marching band, and theater productions. If this money isn't raised, those type of activities will end. So, yes, it's important.
Walnut24 tasks the students with going out to get this money by asking for donations from friends, neighbors, aunts and uncles, even your parents co-workers. One dollar here, five dollars there. It all adds up.

Secondly, Walnut24 has become a day of fun, a field day. 24 games will
take place over 12 hours. Students compete in small groups for prizes
and points.
The morning starts off with a 2.4-mile run or walk around the Walnut campus. A new game starts up every 30 minutes thereafter. Games run gamut from athletic (relay races, tug o war and obstacle course) to laid back (corn hole and bocce) to brain-challenging (Rubik's Cube, jigsaw puzzles and Pictionary). Students, with their friends, choose which games they want to compete in throughout the day. Compete in one or two or attempt to compete in all 24.

Afterward, there will be a two-hour party on the football field featuring live Walnut bands, Haze and Social Rejects Club. We'll make announcements of the winning teams and competitors between songs and sets.

Step one is to GET REGISTERED. There is a $25 minimum to register or a $35 minimum to register if you want a Walnut T-shirt. T-shirts are limited edition and you need to register by Sept 20 to secure your size. Other wise you will have to choose from sizes that are left.

Step two is to start COLLECTING DONATIONS. there is only two weeks left and we have a long way to go. LET'S GET STARTED!

ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITIES AT WALNUT24, SEPTEMBER 29, 2012!!

This is to let you know of the many ways your business or employer can advertise at Walnut24.  Our event will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the football field at Walnut Hills High School to raise money to support needed extracurricular activities offered to our students. This is a 12 hour event, starting at 9:00AM with 24 games or activities in which student teams will compete to raise needed funds.  Each student will need to raise a minimum amount in order to compete.  This has been a fun and popular event in the past and your business or your employer can take part in a very special way by purchasing advertising.   

Advertising opportunities include:

Title Sponsor ($5,000)
Your logo on the Walnut24 Website, prominently on the front and back of event t-shirts, registration forms and all promotional materials as "Title Sponsor," including large banner displayed on time clock during the entire 12 hour event.  Your business recognized over loudspeaker over the entire event.

Presenting Sponsor ($2,500)
Your logo on Walnut24 Website, prominently on back of event t-shirts, registration forms and all promotional materials as "Presenting Sponsor," including large banner displayed on time clock during the entire 12 hour event.  Your business recognized over loudspeaker over the entire event.

Session Sponsor ($1,000) Your logo on Walnut24 Website, back of event t-shirt, registration forms and all promotional materials.  Logo displayed on time clock for three hours and trackside for other nine hours. (Maximum of 4 sponsors at this level.) Your business recognized over loudspeaker during your three hour period.

Hourly Sponsor ($500)
Your logo on Walnut24 Website and back of event t-shirt.  Logo on banner at time clock during one hour and trackside for other 11 hours. Your business recognized over loudspeaker during your one hour period.

General Sponsor ($100) Your name on Walnut24 Website and back of event t-shirt.

Walnut24 Parent Volunteers

Walnut24 -- an annual Walnut Hills High School Association fundraiser benefitting Walnut Hills student activities and clubs - will be back for its third year on Sept 29th!  The money raised here helps pay for club advisors, after school activities, coaches for all the Walnut Hills sports teams, class advisors, and marching band and theater directors, so this is a critical event.

The Walnut24 Committee has been meeting over the Spring and Summer and is looking for help as the two-month countdown approaches. Here are the areas where assistance on the Committee is needed please:  
•food coordination
•prize donations
•volunteer coordination
•marketing
•set-up 

We meet about once a month (for an hour) prior to school starting and then every week or two (for an hour) during the lead up to the event. Can you spare a few hours to help continue this new Walnut Hills tradition please?  You won't be re-inventing the wheel as we have great notes from work done in past years and people on the Committee are ready to assist.

The Committee meets on Monday evenings, 7 pm at Panera in Hyde Park Plaza. Our next meeting dates are  July 30, Aug 6, Aug 20, Aug 27, Sept 10, Sept 17, and Sept 24th. Walnut24 Design Contest

The Third Annual Walnut24 fundraiser is Saturday, Sept 29. When the students get back in August, we want to start promoting immediately.

We have always held a contest and asked students to create a design that will be used for posters, t-shirts and other branding for the fundraising event. The student who submits the winning design will receive a copy of the shirt and poster for their portfolio and a $50 prize.

You don’t have to be an artist. Submissions don’t have to be elaborate. We have a graphic designer that will clean up any design idea submitted to get it ready for print.

Criteria for designs:

• Can be submitted as a hardcopy or an electronic file (.jpg, .png or .eps formats)
• 12”x12” max size if hardcopy
• Two colors (shirt can be third color)
• Text on the design is optional
• Must be original work, not taken from the Internet
• Theme: Walnut24. 24 games in 12 hours. (note: we’ve dropped the “walkathon” as part of the name and gone with more of a ‘field day’ format for the event)
• Note: the event is not 24 hours long this year, it will run for 12 hours.

Hardcopies should be mailed or dropped of at the school office. Electronic files should be emailed to 24@walnut24.com.

All submissions are due by Friday, Aug 17 at noon. Winner will be notified by phone and/or email. Winning entry will be announced after school resumes.
